Readiness to change and understanding that change must occur is essential in achieving anything you have not yet achieved. So many people set out with good intentions however their readiness to change and to create new behaviours is not yet there.
As humans we are creatures of habit and products of our environment.
- We eat three meals per day because that's what we learnt as children
- We avoid food/cut carbs/go hungry/eat salad only to lose weight because that's what mum did or what society told us to do.
- If we are 50kg or 60kg or 70kg or whatever your number is, we call ourselves fat because that number dictates so.
Who made these rules?
The reason I list these things is because, right or wrong we can all relate. We have all done them ourselves or know someone who has.
What I want to stress in this article is that unless you are prepared to accept the way you are doing things may not be the best way, then you may not be ready to change.
Reluctance to change is a goal killer and the undoing of many ‘would be’ exercise enthusiasts.
My recommendation is to accept that your knowledge and understanding has got you to where you currently are and because you have made the decision to change you have acknowledged that this is not a place you want to be. Understand that reaching this point, and admitting you do not have all the answers is not failure, it is the beginning of success.
Failure however is to reach this point, ask for assistance from a professional and then reject that information as incorrect and revert to what you know. This is also the definition of insanity.
Change, difficult as it is, is the key to creating the new environment necessary to achieve your goals.
Accept it and embrace it as part of the process and go to work.
Your success awaits you.
